لكننا نستمر في الحلم والعمل على تحقيق مبتغانا ..

إن السلوك هو ما يصنع النجاح أو الفشل، فما الفرق بين الناجح وغير النجاح  إلا ما يقومان به. فالناجحون أشخاص لديهم الكثير من الالتزام والقدر الكافي من الانضباط، إنهم يفضلون ما هو صحيح على ما هو ممتع، ويختارون الحلول الجذرية وإن كانت صعبة بدلاً من الحلول السهلة المؤقتة، وهم واضحون في قراراتهم واختياراتهم لا يلتفون حول المشكلة ولا يتجنبون مواجهتها. وهذه الصفات رغم ما يبدو عليه وصفها من عِظم، إلا أن لكل الأعمار أفعال منها، خذ على سبيل المثال هذا الجيل، الكثير من الأطفال الآن متعثرين في القراءة والحساب واكتساب اللغة الثانية، ليس ذلك لصعوبتها إنما لقلة انضباطهم واِلتزامهم، لكن هذا الانضباط والالتزام يظهر إذا ما أراد الطفل تعلم لعبة جديدة أو عندما تريد الطفلة تعلم كيفية وضع مساحيق التجميل، فهو جيل ناشئ على اختيار ما هو ممتع على ما هو صحيح. إن الانضباط والالتزام وكل السلوكيات المؤدية إلى النجاح في حقيقتها هي سلوكيات مكتسبة، ونحن في الحقيقة بصدد تنشئة جيل يستصعب النجاح ويستسيغ الفشل، إذ أننا لا نعطي هذه السلوكيات أولويةً في التربية. هذه السلوكيات إن لم ينشأ عليها الطفل صغيرًا صار ضعيفاً أمام أهواء نفسه وأمام مغريات الحياة، وكل المبادئ التي يلقنها له أبواه قد تكون عرضةً للتداعي والانهيار يوماً ما.

خالتي التي لم أعرفها معرفةً حقة، أذكر أنني رأيتها للمرة الأخيرة لست سنين تلت الألفية، ذكرياتي عنها قبل ذلك العام ضبابية جداً، إذ لم أكن يوماً إحدى أبناء البيت الكبير، لكن ذكرى واحدة عنها ستظل عالقة في ذهني ما حييت، لقد كانت خالتي ذات مرض، تشكو أوجاعاً عديدة، ورغم أنها قد كانت كبيرةً في السن لكنها كانت حاضرة الذهن بالقدر الذي يسمح لها بتذكر ماضيها وكيف كانت حياتها قبل أن تصاب بالمرض، فيدفعها ذلك للتأفف والتذمر من الحال الذي آلت إليه، وأذكر أن زوجها - الطاعن في السن المصاب ببعض ما أصيبت به - جاء ذات صباح ليلقي عليها تحية الصباح، كان رجلاً بشوشاً كثير التبسم يمشي ببطء يطرق الأرض بعكازٍ يعتمد عليها، رأته خالتي قادماً نحوها فانتهرته قائلة: (عايز شنو؟ جاي ليه؟) فغضب زوجها واستدار وغادر البيت كله، أزعجني قولها ذاك في قرارة نفسي لكنني لم أعقب عليه، وبعد وقت ليس ببعيد، عاد زوج خالتي وجلس إلى جانبها وأخذا يتجاذبان أطراف الحديث ويضحكان وهما يتناولان الشاي، لم أر خالتي وزوجها قط شابين كما بديا في تلك اللحظة، كان ينظر إليها كما لو كانت عروسه الجديدة، وكانت تشيح بنظرها خجلاً كما لو كانت عروساً بالفعل. لكن سؤالاً سيظل يلح علي ما بقي من حياتي، ما الذي رآه عم أحمد من خالتي خديجة فيما مضى من حياتهما، حتى يغفر لها زلتها بلمح البصر؟ لم يكن تجاوزه عن كلامها حباً، لابد من أنه كان امتناناً لأشياء جميلة فعلتها سابقاً واحتفظ بها في ذاكرته رصيدًا يغفر به مواقف كهذه. توفيت خالتي في العام ذاته بعد عدة أشهر من مغادرتي، وسمعت ممن رأى أن زوج خالتي بكاها كما لو كان طفلاً فقد أمه، ولم يتأخر عنها سوى بضع أعوام. رحم الله خالتي وزوجها.
